Journey

Journey Review

(Now just before i get started i just wanna say that this is my first attempt at doing a review...so if there's any info that i'm missing that most games have or if i've done something wrong, please let me know and i will try to improve in future reviews...thanks you and i hope you enjoy reading my review)

Now first of all...i just wanna say that journey is amazing. I've already played though the game more than 5 times and i still can't get enough of playing it again and again. With beautiful graphics, nicely detailed enviroments, a great soundtrack and a unique multiplayer component...journey is a game like no other.

In journey, you guide a cloaked traveller who only has one goal. Get to the shining light at the mountain top. But that's not the only thing you need to know. As you play, you'll get to know more about the world and what it's about. You also might meet other travellers who also has the same common goal as you. And knowing is only a part about having a good time in Journey.

The graphics in Journey are amazing, the sand looks stunning to look at when the light shines upon it, especially when you get to marvel at it in a level halfway through the game. The lighting's also excellent in other levels too. And that's because the developers have used the latest version of PhyreEngine to put those effects to good use. And all in all, it succeeds on many levels.

The gameplay in Journey is pretty simple. You only need three inputs to make it to your goal. Run, jump and speak. But you can also use the camera, (Like almost every other game) the select button which allows you to sits down in a meditating pose. And (Obviously) the pause button which pauses the game. But really it's the speaking that is the real highlight of the control input in the game. Speaking allows you to use the little cloths floating in the air that help you fly further, but speaking also allows you to uncover glyphs, free floating cloth creatures, activate a meditating spot before the end of each level and communicate with other players. The sound of your speak changes when in different levels. Jumping helps you fly and glide to places you can't reach and let's you travel faster. The controls work really well so you won't have problems when playing the game.

While completing it by yourself is good, it's actually a real experience when you play with another player. As you play, Journey randomly connects you with other players. When you meet someone, you can either work together as a team to help each other get to the goal. Or you can leave him or her and wish to do it alone yourself but really you should team up with other people. It's a better experience with a friend than by yourself, because it's makes the ending of your journey even more special. Not only that, but it can (and maybe will) create memories that will most likely touch you with emotion and feeling. And that's a really good thing.

While journey is a game that will certainly appeal to alot of people,(And it already has as a matter of fact) it really isn't meant to be played by everyone (Although i wish it would). There are some people who are more into games that are fast paced. If you are one of them, then Journey will most likely not be for you. There are some scenes in the game where it does go by slowly. And you really have to be patient if you want to continue having fun with the game.

Now some people may be wondering "There must be a bug or something in the game". Well...let's just say...there are really, really, really rare bugs that i encountered in the game. One was a minor one that after i started one of my other playthroughs of this game, the cloaked traveller's robe did somewhat minorly glitched causing it to whizz up in the air for a second. But the one i encountered and got really annoyed off was when i was floating on a cloth creature and i couldn't seem to get myself out. I pressed everything on my controller but nothing worked. So i had to quit and reload the game. It didn't break the game...but i did get annoyed by that one. But like i said these are really, really, really rare bugs so it's likely by 99.9% that you'll never see these glitches in any of your playthroughs.

Verdict
In the end, Journey is a very amazing game. Those of you who have played Fower should definitely play this. It's a game meant to be experienced and one that should be experienced over and over again. I was gonna mention the collectibles for the game, but i'll leave that up to you. So here's what to do. Get the game, make sure the atmosphere is nice and perfect, turn off the lights, relax and enjoy. You'll never regret it :)

  1. Hello. :D

If you were the one who played Journey today, name was "Asad50", I played under "Marras02". It's my friend's account and she wanted to show me the game, and while she played a little while, I wanted to try too. I'm more PC player, so I don't really know how to use PS controller, so my gaming was... well, it wouldn't work even that well without my friend telling me what to do some times. At first I did had another companion, but s/he left me behind me being so slow, but then you entered. And I want to say that I was so happy meeting you there, and that I had the most wonderful experience with that game. And now I feel like that I don't want to play it anymore, I don't want to ruin this memory.

And I wanted to tell you this that I wasn't trolling in the end, I just... I tried my best and my friends yelled that "HE'S THERE GO- NO- NO LIKE- JUST NO DON'T GO THERE- AAARR" and I was "T^T I'm trying my best I canno't...! I want this end to be perfect and I'm RUINING IT AAAAHH"

And haha, at the beginning my friend needed to show me how to get the one secret (I shoved the controller to her because I was too scared that you would left me behind). But after that I keeped playing and in some hard places I just had to try my best, that you wouldn't think something that "how can s/he play NOW that good". Haha.

Thank you for the Journey. I hope I reached the right person. :)

    1. Oh yeah i remember. You played her second time on the game yes? I can tell from the pattern on the bottom of the travellers cloak. Every time you beat the game to the end, a new pattern is added to the travellers cloak. It can go up to 3 patterns but no more after beating it more than 3 times. And i see what you mean. Since the game is meant for a anonymous online experience, i can't really tell who's who. So yeah i forgive you for the way you played. Also if your wondering about the white cloak, it can be earned from collecting every symbol in the game. And no i never thought of how could you have gotten better lol. But yeah i really had fun playing with you. And thank you for letting me have a good time ^^
